What is the IR 5 visa?
The IR 5 visa is a family based immigrant visa for the parent of a US citizen. In simple terms, it turns your mother or father into a lawful permanent resident and gives them a green card. Because a parent is an “immediate relative,” this visa carries no yearly quota. As a result, it moves far quicker than distant family categories such as the sibling visa.
Furthermore, the green card your parents receive is a full 10 year permanent card, with no conditions to remove. Later, after living in the US for the required time, your parents can even apply to become US citizens themselves. In short, the IR 5 opens a complete, lasting future for your family.

Who qualifies for an IR 5 visa?

The petitioner is a US citizen aged 21 or older. A green card holder cannot sponsor a parent.
