The USA is still open to Pakistani students, and it is one of the few countries where your family can come with you. But the rules on stay and screening changed, and the interview carries more weight than ever.

The budget, line by line
Your I 20 shows the exact first year amount your university expects you to prove. Assistantships and scholarships reduce it, and must be in writing before the interview. The $250 integrity fee took effect on 1 October 2025; collection has been uneven, so we confirm it for your appointment.

Ask your questionCan Pakistani students still get a US student visa?
Yes. Pakistan is not on the visa suspension lists, and the embassy in Islamabad and the consulate in Karachi interview student applicants. Approval depends on a genuine course choice, funds you can explain and a clear interview.
What changed for F1 students on 15 September 2026?
Students are now admitted for the length of their programme, up to four years, instead of for duration of status. Longer programmes need an extension through USCIS, and the grace period after you finish is 30 days.
How much money must I show?
The first year total on your I 20: tuition plus living costs as your university sets them. It can come from family savings, an education loan, a scholarship or an assistantship, all documented.
Can my spouse and children come with me?
Yes, on F2 visas at any degree level. They cannot work in the USA, but children can attend school. This is one of the biggest differences from the UK and Australia today.
Can I work while studying?
Up to 20 hours a week on campus during term and full time in breaks. Off campus work needs authorisation, such as Curricular Practical Training that is part of your programme.
What is OPT?
Optional Practical Training: 12 months of work in your field after you graduate, with a further 24 months for eligible STEM degrees under the current rules.
Do I have to make my social media public?
Yes. Student visa applicants are asked to list their social media accounts and set them to public so they can be reviewed. Make sure what you post matches what you tell the officer.
Which English test should I take?
TOEFL iBT, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test, depending on the university. For graduate programmes, check whether a GRE or GMAT is required or optional.
How early should I start for Fall 2027?
Twelve months ahead: shortlist and take tests in the summer before, apply from October to January, get your I 20 by spring, and book the interview as soon as slots open.
What if my visa is refused under 214(b)?
It means the officer was not convinced about your plans or ties. You can reapply when something real has changed or you can explain your case better. Bring the refusal details to your assessment.
Do you fill in the DS 160 for me?
No. You complete and submit the DS 160 yourself and attend the interview in person. We review the form with you, organise your documents and run mock interviews.
Is a US degree worth the cost?
For the right course, yes: especially funded master’s and PhD places, and STEM degrees with three years of OPT. We give you an honest cost and return comparison with the UK, Canada and Australia.
