General Questions

Visa Filing, Documents & Processing

Here are clear answers on how visa filing works, what you need, and what happens after you apply.

What is visa filing, and what does Westside Visa do?

Visa filing means preparing and submitting your application to an embassy, consulate, or an authorised visa centre. These centres include VFS Global, BLS International, and TLScontact.

We handle the whole process for you. First, we check your eligibility. Then we prepare your forms and documents in the exact format the mission requires. Next, we book your appointment and brief you for biometrics and interview day. Finally, we track your file until a decision arrives.

You always remain the applicant. We simply prepare and manage the submission on your behalf.

Which visa categories can I file through Westside Visa?

We file all of the main visa categories:

  • Tourist / Visit visa leisure travel and family visits
  • Business visa meetings, conferences, and trade delegations
  • Student visa university and college admissions
  • Work permit visa employment-based applications
  • Family & spouse visa dependent and reunification cases
  • Medical visa treatment abroad, including attendant applications

Sub-types vary by country. For example, some destinations separate short-stay (Schengen Type C) from long-stay (Type D) applications. The document set also differs for each.

What documents do I need to file a visa application?

The core document set for most applications includes:

  • A passport valid for at least six months, with two blank pages
  • A completed and signed application form for that mission
  • Recent photographs in the correct biometric specification
  • Bank statements, usually for the last six months
  • Proof of employment, business, or student status
  • A travel itinerary and confirmed accommodation
  • Travel medical insurance, where required (such as for Schengen)
  • A cover letter explaining your travel purpose and dates

Student and work applications need a few extra items. These include an admission or offer letter, academic transcripts, English test results, and usually an attested or apostilled document set.

Good to know: We give you a checklist for your exact destination and category at the start, so you never have to guess.
How long does visa processing take?

Two timelines matter here, and they are separate.

Our filing time: we prepare and submit most complete files within 48 hours of receiving your documents.

Embassy processing time: the mission controls this, not us. As a general guide:

  • Schengen short-stay 15 to 30 days
  • UK visit visa around 3 weeks (standard)
  • Student visas 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the intake
  • Work permits 6 to 16 weeks, depending on labour-market steps

Peak season (May to August, and December) can extend these times. No consultancy can speed up an embassy's internal processing. So please be cautious of anyone who claims otherwise.

Do I need to attend in person, and what happens at the appointment?

In most cases, yes. Almost all missions now require biometric enrolment your fingerprints and a facial photograph. You must give these in person at the visa centre.

At your appointment, you submit your file, complete biometrics, and pay any fees. This usually takes 20 to 45 minutes. Some countries also require a consular interview. This is most common for the US and for certain student cases.

We book the appointment, tell you exactly what to carry, and brief you beforehand. That way, nothing surprises you on the day.

What does it cost to file a visa application?

There are two separate costs, and the difference matters.

Embassy and visa centre fees are set by the destination country. You pay these directly to them. They are non-refundable, even if your application is refused.

Our professional service fee covers assessment, document preparation, filing, and case management. It varies by destination and category. We quote it to you in writing before you commit.

Free first step: Your initial 30-minute consultation is free. We never charge for an eligibility assessment.
Can you guarantee my visa will be approved?

No, and no consultancy legitimately can. The decision rests solely with the visa officer at the mission.

What we can control is the quality of your submission. Most refusals come from avoidable issues. These include inconsistent finances, weak proof of ties to home, incomplete forms, or documents that miss the mission's specification.

We screen for these problems before filing. That is why our approval rate sits at 98%. If we assess your profile as unlikely to succeed, we tell you directly rather than take a fee for a filing that is likely to fail.

My visa was refused. What are my options?

First, we review your refusal notice. Every mission states a ground of refusal, and your next step depends on what it says.

Depending on that ground and the country, your routes are:

  • Appeal or administrative review for certain UK and Schengen refusals, usually within 14 to 30 days
  • Reapplication — when the refusal was based on a fixable document gap
  • Alternative destination when your profile suits another country better
Important: You must declare a previous refusal on future applications. Hiding it counts as misrepresentation and can lead to a multi-year ban.
What are the most common reasons applications get refused?

Based on the files we see, these grounds come up again and again:

  • Insufficient or unexplained funds sudden large deposits without a clear source
  • Weak ties to home no job, property, or family reason to return
  • Inconsistent informatio form details that clash with the documents
  • Incorrect documents wrong photo size, unattested certificates, missing translations
  • Unclear travel purpose an itinerary that doesn't match the stated reason
  • Past immigration history prior refusals, overstays, or breaches

You can address each of these before you submit. That is the whole point of a pre-filing review.

IELTS Questions

IELTS Training, Tests & Preparation

Here are clear answers about our IELTS coaching, test types, and how we help you reach your target band score.

Which IELTS test do I actually need?

It depends on your destination and purpose. Academic is for university admission and professional registration. General Training is for migration to Canada or Australia, and for most work routes.

UKVI versions are required for UK visa applications. Life Skills is only for UK family, settlement, and citizenship routes.

Booking the wrong test means paying twice. So we confirm the correct one for your route before you register.

What is IELTS Life Skills, and how is it different?

Life Skills tests only Speaking and Listening. It takes 16 to 32 minutes, and the result is simply pass or fail there is no band score.

You take it in pairs, with another candidate and an examiner. It exists only to meet UK Home Office English requirements at levels A1, A2, and B1. You cannot use it for university admission, or for immigration to any country other than the UK.

What's the difference between IELTS and IELTS for UKVI?

The test content, format, and scoring are identical. The difference is administrative.

UKVI tests run at centres approved by the UK Home Office under stricter security. Results also come on a different form with a unique reference number.

Watch out: If your UK route asks for IELTS for UKVI, a standard IELTS result will be refused no matter how high your score.
What band score will I need?

It varies by route. Here is a quick guide:

  • UK student routes usually 5.5 to 6.5, depending on the course
  • Canadian institutions typically 6.0 to 6.5
  • Canada Express Entry usually CLB 7 (around 6.0 in each module)
  • Australian universities commonly 6.5 overall
  • UK nursing registration 7.0

Professional bodies often set higher bars. We verify the current requirement for your exact institution or route.

Can I retake just one module if I missed my target?

Yes, through IELTS One Skill Retake, where your centre offers it. You must sit the full test first, and you retake at the same centre within a set period.

This saves real time and money when you are only one band short in a single skill. We also run focused preparation for exactly that module.

How long will I need to prepare?

It depends on your starting level and your target. Moving from 5.5 to 6.5 usually takes longer than polishing a 6.5 to a 7. Life Skills prep is generally shorter, because it covers only two skills.

After your diagnostic assessment, we give you a realistic timeline not a standard promise. And if your deadline isn't achievable, we'll say so.

Should I take IELTS on paper or on computer?

The content and difficulty are the same. Computer results arrive in 3 to 5 days, while paper takes around 13. Many candidates also find typing easier than handwriting under time pressure.

Paper suits those who like to annotate the question papers. Note that the Speaking test is face-to-face with an examiner in both formats. Our practice covers both.

Do you offer online classes?

Yes. We run in-person sessions at our DHA Phase 5 office in Lahore. We also run online classes for students elsewhere in Pakistan or abroad.

Online students get the same mock tests, speaking sessions, and writing correction as our in-person students.

What do your IELTS packages cost?

Fees vary by test type and format. Life Skills prep costs less than a full four-module Academic course, and one-to-one sessions cost more than group classes.

We quote in writing after your free assessment, so the price reflects what you actually need. Please note that the IELTS test fee itself is paid separately to the British Council or IDP.

Where do I book the test itself?

In Pakistan, the British Council and IDP IELTS run the test. Both have centres in Lahore, and you register directly with them.

We advise on which test to book, which format to choose, and which date suits your readiness and deadlines.

Can beginners join?

Yes. Our Foundation package is built for students starting at a lower level. It works on your core English first, before moving into exam technique. The diagnostic assessment tells us where to begin.

Do you help with what comes after IELTS?

Yes, and that is the main reason students choose us. Once you have your result, the same team handles the next steps.

We help with university shortlisting, admission applications, SOP writing, document attestation, and visa filing for study, work, or family routes. So nothing gets lost between a language centre and a separate consultancy.

General Questions

Clear answers on visa filing, documents, processing times, and what happens after you apply.

Visa filing is the process of preparing, compiling, and submitting your application to an embassy, consulate, or an authorised visa application centre such as VFS Global, BLS International, or TLScontact.

We handle this end to end. That includes checking your eligibility before you apply, preparing your forms and supporting documents to the exact format the mission requires, booking your appointment, briefing you on biometrics and interview day, and tracking your file until a decision is issued. You remain the applicant throughout. we prepare and manage the submission on your behalf.

We file the following categories:

  • Tourist / Visit visa; leisure travel, family visits
  • Business visa; meetings, conferences, trade delegations
  • Student visa; university and college admissions
  • Work permit visa; employment-based applications
  • Family and spouse visa; dependent and reunification cases
  • Medical visa; treatment abroad, including attendant applications

Categories and their sub-types vary by country. Some destinations, for example, separate short-stay (Schengen Type C) from long-stay (Type D) applications, and the document set differs for each.

The core document set for most applications is:

  • Passport valid at least six months beyond your intended travel date, with at least two blank pages
  • Completed and signed application form for that specific mission
  • Recent photographs meeting that country's biometric specification (size and background vary; Schengen, UK, and US all differ)
  • Bank statements, usually covering the last six months, with a maintained closing balance
  • Proof of employment, business registration, or student status
  • Travel itinerary and confirmed accommodation
  • Travel medical insurance where required, such as for Schengen states
  • Cover letter explaining the purpose and duration of travel

Student and work applications additionally require an admission or offer letter, academic transcripts, English proficiency results where applicable, and in most cases an attested or apostilled document set.

We issue you a checklist specific to your destination and category at the start, so you are not guessing.

Two timelines matter here, and they are separate.

Our filing time: most complete files are prepared and submitted within 48 hours of receiving your documents.

Embassy processing time: this is controlled entirely by the mission, not by us. As a general guide:

  • Schengen short-stay: 15 to 30 calendar days
  • UK visit visa: approximately 3 weeks standard
  • Student visas: 4 to 12 weeks, depending on intake season
  • Work permits: 6 to 16 weeks, depending on labour-market steps

Peak season (May to August, and December) extends these. No consultancy can accelerate an embassy's internal processing, and you should be cautious of anyone who claims otherwise.

In most cases, yes. Almost all missions now require biometric enrolment; fingerprints and a facial photograph. which must be given in person at the visa application centre.

At your appointment you submit your document file, complete biometrics, and pay any embassy or centre fees. It typically takes 20 to 45 minutes. Some countries additionally require a consular interview, most commonly the US and, for certain student cases, a credibility interview.

We book the appointment, tell you exactly what to carry, and brief you on the process beforehand so nothing is unexpected on the day.

There are two separate costs, and it is important to understand the difference.

Embassy and visa centre fees are set by the government of the destination country and paid directly to them or to the application centre. These are non-refundable, including if your application is refused.

Our professional service fee covers assessment, document preparation, filing, and case management. It varies by destination and category and is quoted to you in writing before you commit.

Your initial 30-minute consultation is free. We do not charge for an eligibility assessment.

No, and no consultancy legitimately can. The decision rests solely with the visa officer at the mission concerned.

What we can control is the quality of what is submitted. Most refusals result from avoidable issues: inconsistent financial evidence, weak proof of ties to your home country, incomplete forms, or documents that don't meet the mission's specification. We screen for these before filing, which is why our approval rate sits at 98%.

If we assess your profile as unlikely to succeed, we will tell you directly rather than take a fee for a filing that is likely to fail.

First, we review the refusal notice. Missions issue a stated ground of refusal, and your next step depends entirely on what it says.

Depending on that ground and the country involved, the routes are:

  • Appeal or administrative review; available for certain UK and Schengen refusals, usually within a strict deadline of 14 to 30 days
  • Reapplication; appropriate where the refusal was based on a fixable documentary gap
  • Alternative destination; where your profile is a stronger match elsewhere

A previous refusal must be declared on future applications. Concealing it is treated as misrepresentation and can lead to a multi-year ban, so it should never be omitted.

Based on the files we see, the recurring grounds are:

  • Insufficient or unexplained funds; sudden large deposits without a documented source are a frequent trigger
  • Weak ties to home country; no employment, property, or family commitments demonstrating you will return
  • Inconsistent information; details on the form that contradict the supporting documents
  • Incomplete or incorrectly formatted documents; wrong photograph specification, unattested certificates, missing translations
  • Unclear purpose of travel; an itinerary that doesn't align with the stated reason
  • Previous immigration history; prior refusals, overstays, or breaches

Each of these is addressable before submission, which is the entire purpose of a pre-filing review.
