Study in Canada from Pakistan, with a plan that fits the new rules
Canada now takes fewer international students, but it has opened the door wider for master’s and PhD applicants. This page shows who still gets in, what money to show, how the study permit works from Pakistan, and where you could live for the next two years.

Is Canada right for you for 2027?
Since the 2024 cap, new study permits have fallen by around 80 percent, but not evenly. Where you fit decides whether Canada is worth your application fee.
Master’s and PhD at a public university
- No provincial attestation letter (PAL) for degree programmes starting from 1 January 2026
- Outside the provincial caps
- Good grades, a clear study plan and funds you can explain
Bachelor’s at a public university
- Strong FSc or A Level results
- The province still has PAL space when you apply
- Family funds with a steady, documented history
Diplomas and certificates at private colleges
- Needs a PAL and faces the tightest limits
- Refusals are common with study gaps or thin funds
- We will tell you honestly if another country suits you better
Big cities, safe campuses, and seasons you will never forget
A Canadian degree is respected across North America and the Gulf, and the work permit after graduation turns your study years into real Canadian experience.

The door Canada opened wider
Master’s and doctoral students now make up a fifth of new study permits, up from about one in eight a year earlier.

Winters you will talk about for years

Lakes and mountains a road trip away
Six routes into a Canadian qualification
Tell us your last qualification, your grades and your budget, and we will tell you which route fits and which to avoid.
Bachelor’s degree
Four years at a public university. Needs a PAL, so apply early while your province still has places.
Master’s degree
The strongest route for Pakistani graduates: course based or thesis based, and no PAL at public universities for starts from 1 January 2026.
PhD
Funded places with a supervisor, no PAL, and processing reported at about two weeks.
Postgraduate certificate
A one year college programme after a degree. Practical and job focused, but it needs a PAL and faces tight limits.
College diploma
Hands on training at public colleges. Choose the programme carefully: work permit rules after college are stricter.
Co op programmes
Study terms mixed with paid work terms in your field. A Canadian reference on your CV before you graduate.

The post graduation work permit: turn your degree into Canadian experience
An open work permit lets you work for almost any employer after you finish. Its length follows your programme, and you need an English result at the right level when you apply for it.
From offer letter to Pearson airport in six steps
You submit the application on the official IRCC portal and attend biometrics yourself. We prepare the file with you and check every page before it goes.
Offer
A letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI).
PAL, if needed
Bachelor’s, college and private programmes need a provincial attestation letter. Master’s and PhD at public universities do not.
Funds
CAD 23,448 living costs plus first year tuition and travel, from a GIC, bank history, loan or scholarship.
Apply online
IRCC portal, CAD 150 fee, and an upfront medical exam with an approved panel physician.
Biometrics
At the visa application centre in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi, CAD 85.
Decision
About seven weeks from Pakistan in September 2026, then a passport request and your letter of introduction.
The budget, line by line
Living cost figures apply to applications from 1 September 2026, outside Quebec. Quebec sets its own amounts and needs a CAQ first. Show funds you can explain: sudden large deposits without a clear source are a common reason for refusal of Pakistani applications.

Canada study questions we hear every week
Anything else, ask on WhatsApp. A real adviser replies, not a bot.
Ask your questionIs Canada still accepting Pakistani students for 2027?
Yes, but fewer, and mostly at graduate level. Master’s and PhD applicants to public universities have the clearest path; private college diplomas face the tightest limits. We tell you honestly where your profile sits.
Do I need a provincial attestation letter (PAL)?
Not for a degree granting master’s or doctoral programme at a public institution starting on or after 1 January 2026. Bachelor’s, college and most other programmes still need one, issued by the province through your institution.
How much money must I show?
CAD 23,448 for living costs if you study alone outside Quebec, from 1 September 2026, plus your first year tuition and travel. With a spouse it is CAD 29,192. Quebec sets its own figures.
Is a GIC compulsory for Pakistani students?
No. A GIC is one clear way to show living costs, alongside bank statements with a steady history, an education loan or a scholarship letter. What matters is that every rupee can be explained.
Can I work while studying?
Up to 24 hours a week off campus during academic sessions, and full time in scheduled breaks such as summer and winter holidays.
Can my spouse come with me and work?
A spouse open work permit is now limited to certain programmes, mainly master’s of 16 months or longer, doctoral and some professional degrees. Other spouses can apply as visitors. Check your exact programme with us first.
How long can I work after I graduate?
Up to three years on a post graduation work permit for programmes of two years or more and master’s degrees of at least eight months, if you meet the English level: CLB 7 for university graduates, CLB 5 for college.
Which English test should I take?
IELTS Academic, PTE Academic or TOEFL for admission. Keep in mind the work permit after graduation needs an approved test such as IELTS General Training, CELPIP or PTE Core taken within two years.
How long does a study permit take from Pakistan?
About seven weeks in IRCC’s 22 September 2026 update. Times change weekly, so for a September 2027 start have your offer and funds ready by spring 2027.
What about studying in Quebec?
Montreal and Quebec City need a Quebec acceptance certificate (CAQ) before the study permit, and Quebec uses its own funds amounts. Budget extra time.
What if my permit is refused?
Read the reasons in the refusal letter; most Pakistani refusals are about funds or the study plan. A stronger fresh application is often the right move. Bring the letter to your assessment.
Do you submit the application for me?
No. You submit on the official IRCC portal and attend biometrics yourself. We prepare the file with you, check the forms and your study plan, and tell you plainly if the case is ready.
