Three things every Pakistani applicant must know for 2027
On 17 September 2026 the Minister for Home Affairs announced two changes, and Pakistan already sits at the strictest evidence level. Plan your application around all three.
Most students can no longer bring family
- New student and graduate visas will not allow a partner or children to be attached
- PhD students are exempt, and government sponsored students are reported to be too

The Temporary Graduate visa: two to three years to build your career
The subclass 485 lets you live and work in Australia for any employer after you finish. Its length depends on your degree, and you must apply at 35 or under.

The budget, line by line
Rupee amounts move with the exchange rate, and the Department converts on the day it assesses your file, so keep a margin. Show funds with a history you can explain; sudden deposits are a common refusal reason.

Yes. Australia planned for 295,000 new international students in 2026. Pakistan is at Evidence Level 3, so your funds, English and study plan must be fully documented and consistent.
Can I bring my spouse and children?
Under the change announced on 17 September 2026, most new students will not be able to attach family members. PhD students are exempt. The start date has not been published, so married applicants should speak to us before choosing a course.
How much money must I show?
AUD 29,710 for 12 months of living costs, plus your first year tuition and travel. Evidence must show where the money came from, with a history you can explain.
What is the Genuine Student requirement?
A short statement, backed by evidence, showing why this course, this university and Australia make sense for your background and career. It replaced the old GTE in 2024 and is where many Pakistani files fail.
Can I work while studying?
Up to 48 hours a fortnight while your course is in session and unlimited hours in scheduled breaks. Master’s by research and PhD students have no cap once the course starts.
Can I change my course after I arrive?
Under the announced change, only up the qualification scale, for example from a bachelor’s to a master’s. Moving down to a cheaper course will not be allowed, so choose carefully the first time.
How long can I stay after graduating?
Two years on the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) after a bachelor’s or coursework master’s, three years after a research master’s or PhD, if you are 35 or under and have IELTS 6.5.
Which English test should I take?
IELTS Academic, PTE Academic or TOEFL iBT. Most universities want 6.5 overall; the visa minimum is 6.0. Aim for 6.5 from the start, since you will need it again for the 485.
Why do some universities get faster visas?
Priority processing favours universities that are still within their allocation of new students for the year. Ask us which tier your university is in before you pay a deposit.

What if my visa is refused?
Read the refusal reasons; most are about funds or the Genuine Student statement. A stronger fresh application is often the answer. Bring the letter to your assessment.
